Heart-Stone Regeneration. The Colossus regains 15 hit points at the start of its turn if the heart-stone is intact and it has at least 1 hit point. If the Colossus takes fire damage, this trait does not function at the start of its next turn. The heart-stone is an AC 15 object with 40 hit points; destroying it ends this trait permanently.
Siege Monster. The Colossus deals double damage to objects and structures.
Legendary Resistance (2/Day). If the Colossus fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
Multiattack. The Colossus makes two slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage.
Crushing Swing (Recharge 5-6). The Colossus sweeps both arms in a wide arc. Each creature within 10 feet must make a DC 18 Strength saving throw, taking 28 (5d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage on a failed save and being pushed 15 feet, or half as much damage and no push on a successful one.
Groveshake. The Colossus stomps the ground. Each creature within 15 feet of it must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 13 (3d8) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone as roots and falling branches pin them.
How to run Rootspire Colossus
Rootspire Colossus is a cr 10 construct for Dungeons & Dragons. Drop it into any forest scene; the statblock above is free to add to your compendium in the app, and the one-shot below gives you somewhere to run it.
Where it begins
- 1
Loggers sent into the old grove return with their saws bent and teeth missing.
- 2
A surveyor's iron marker stands split down the middle, fresh roots grown through the break.
- 3
A shepherd points to the ridgeline and swears a tree walked across it at dawn.
Heart of the Grove
A logging crew has cut into an old grove and woken its guardian. The party must track the cutting line, find the glyph-carved heart-stone at the grove's center, and decide whether to destroy the Colossus or rebind it to sleep.
The Cutting Line
Splintered stumps mark a fresh trail into the old forest. Black sap weeps from raw cuts, and somewhere ahead heavy footfalls shake dust from the canopy. A logger's axe stands driven through a trunk at chest height, bent nearly in half.
The cutting crew fled two days ago. One body still lies near the trail's end, pinned under a fallen oak with a foreman's ledger tucked in his coat. The party can follow the tracks quickly and risk ambush, or read the forest carefully and buy time.
